List of songs written by Frank Ocean

American singer-songwriter Frank Ocean—also credited by his birth name Christopher Francis Breaux—has written and recorded songs for his own musical releases, as well as written several songs recorded by other artists. Following the flooding and destruction of his recording studio during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Ocean moved from his hometown of New Orleans to the Californian city of Los Angeles, where he sought to continue his musical career. After producing some demo tracks at a friend's home studio and presenting them to record label heads, he eventually landed himself a songwriting contract. He began writing songs for artists such as Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber and American R&B singers Brandy and John Legend; during this period, he met fellow songwriter Tricky Stewart, who convinced him to sign to Def Jam Recordings as a solo artist in late 2009.〔 Ocean also formed a friendship with rapper Tyler, The Creator, leader of the Los Angeles-based hip hop collective Odd Future (OFWGKTA). Ocean subsequently became a member of Odd Future and has credited his friendship with Tyler, The Creator to reinvigorating his songwriting.〔
Ocean released his debut mixtape ''Nostalgia, Ultra'' in February 2011 to critical acclaim.〔 The mixtape's lyrical content focuses on interpersonal relationships, personal reflection, and social commentary. ''Nostalgia, Ultra'' also features prominent sampled content from artists such as Coldplay, MGMT, and the Eagles.〔 Several artists, including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, were impressed by the mixtape and later invited Ocean to work with them. Ocean started writing songs for his debut studio album in February 2011 with songwriter and producer James "Malay" Ho, his friend and creative partner since their start in the music industry as songwriters. The album, titled ''Channel Orange'', was released in July 2012 and received rave reviews from contemporary music critics. Ocean's songwriting on ''Channel Orange'' explores themes such as unrequited love, sex, decadence, and existentialism.
